The Unemployment Rateis obtained through the percentage ratio of unemployed people in relation to the country’s workforce and is published in the Continuous PNAD., produced and published quarterly by the IBGE.

In this survey unemployed persons in the week in reference are those that, cumulatively: (a) were unemployed in that week, (b) took some effective action to get a job in the 30-day period preceding the survey, and (c) were available to take on the reference week. Persons were also considered as unemployed in the reference week, if they did not take effective action to obtain it during the 30-day period that preceded the survey because they had already obtained it and would start it in up to four months.
